The Cook Museum of Natural Science is dedicated to educating and entertaining individuals through a series of exciting exhibitions and discussions on the diversity and beauty of the natural world.
Established by John and Jo Cook, owners of Cook’s Pest Control, the concept for the Natural Science museum was conceived out of the couple's love for community. As Decatur natives, they wanted to create an attraction that would draw tourists to the northern Alabama town, while acting as an important research facility to explore the biodiversity of Alabama and the Tennessee River Valley Region.
Opening in 2019, the Cook Museum of Natural Science will be located in downtown Decatur, close to a number of other area attractions and transportation options. Planned exhibits explore oceans, the arctic/desert, insects, and caves, while a rotating display of special collections will be featured throughout the year. The massive building is set to feature a large scare special events room, perfect for upscale soirees and functions like a wedding or conference. Surrounding the large-scale museum, guests will find the planned educational garden, where guests can learn about the region's specific biodiversity while enjoying the garden’s peaceful ambiance.
Perfect for a family outing during your stay in Decatur, the Cook Museum of Natural Science will feature exhibitions that will engage both children and adults.
